A Fact Checking Tool to Enhance Election Information Accuracy for Social Media Users

Master's Team Project
2024

This project examined how information availability and media preferences influence voting behavior, with the goal of combating political misinformation.

Through semi-structured interviews with New Zealand voters and surveys on media consumption, we uncovered challenges such as limited access to candidate information, voter indifference, and the reinforcement of biases through peer validation. These insights guided the design of a fact-checking plugin, symbolized by a flashlight icon, which allows users to rate the accuracy of political news.

The tool aims to help users navigate misinformation, make informed voting decisions, and engage more critically with political content.
